Tasted is a blind wine-tasting game and wine-box service at tasted.co.za, based in South Africa. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “Tasted” refer to the Tasted business, the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Tasted involves alcohol. The game and store are intended for adults of legal drinking age in South Africa (18+). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us their information, email us and we’ll remove it.
Your account
Your email (to sign you in with a one-tap link or password), and the username and avatar you choose. We use these to create your account and show you on leaderboards.
Playing the game
The answers you give, your scores, and the wine ratings you submit. We use these to run the game, work out scores, and show leaderboards. We also look at ratings in aggregate across all players to curate and improve our wine sets — that aggregated view isn’t linked to you personally.
Orders & delivery
If you buy a box: your name, email, phone number and delivery address, so we can process and deliver your order and send you order updates. Payment is cash on delivery — we do not collect or store card or banking details.
How Tasted is used (analytics)
Anonymous usage events (like starting a game or answering a question), your approximate location (a city/region estimated from your IP address — not GPS), and basic device and browser information. This is not tied to your name or email — it’s linked to a random analytics ID.
Error diagnostics
If something breaks, we log technical details so we can fix it. These crash reports can include your account identifier and email to help us trace the problem.
Communication preferences
Whether you’ve opted in to marketing emails, and when — so we only send marketing to people who’ve asked for it.
We do not sell your personal information. We use a small set of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, under agreements that require them to protect it:

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, users or service.
Your account, game and order data is held with Supabase; analytics is processed on Mixpanel’s servers in the EU. Some of our providers may process data outside South Africa. Where that happens, we use providers that offer an adequate level of protection, consistent with POPIA.
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Order records are kept longer to meet accounting and legal requirements. When we no longer need information, we delete or anonymise it.

To exercise any of these, email hello@tasted.co.za. You can opt out of analytics from the cookie banner, and unsubscribe from marketing using the link in any marketing email. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Tasted is not intended for anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect their information (see section 2).
We may update this policy as Tasted grows. When we do, we’ll post the new version here and update the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted.
